Suoi i 'favolosi' progetti (è il caso di dirlo) di preziosi bijoux-giocattolo, realizzati "riciclando" monili vintage abbandonati nel cassetto (la linea si chiama Repechage), sua l'idea ancor più originale di trasformare l'immaginario di fiabe e canzoni che hanno caratterizzato la sua infanzia in orecchini, bracciali e pendenti irriverenti.
Così il volto rinascimentale delle vecchie 500 lire d’argento bacia il principe rospo che non ha bisogno di metamorfosi perché è bello così come è. Un principe senza corona e senza scorta - come ha detto Faber- Fabrizio De’ Andre’ - baciato dalla sua amata è la bellezza della fiaba e il valore dell’inaspettato. Va da sé che il nome scelto dalla Caltabiano per la collezione sia 'RANA-SCIMENTO'. Sopra a tutto c'è la scelta di Cantalbiano "di superare l’omologazione per ridare spazio alla ricerca dell’autenticità. Per essere unici e… soprattutto rospi". Realizzati con smalto, perle, rame e argento anelli, pendenti orecchini, charms e bracciali si trovano a Firenze nella bottega di Sandra Dori in Via dei Macci 103.

Francesca Caltabiano and her fairy tales jewels. Bio-synthesis of the “memories designer”

Francesca Caltabiano, designer from Florence, has always been fond of minerals, jewels,cinema and fashion.
In 1989, she graduated in Fashion Marketing from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York. In 1991 she earned her diploma in Gemology at the Gemological Institute of America, where she worked for several years as a gemologist.
New York in the ‘90s deeply influences Francesca's creative and cultural path and through this experience, her jewels become expression of her interests: movies, fashion and contemporary art.
In 1993, back in Italy, she began to collaborate with some of the most prestigious jewelry firms, and during her frequent trips, she sought new forms, trends, and ideas that eventually shaped her collections.
In 2007, Francesca Caltabiano started a new path as a jewel and bijoux "creator". Her imaginary fairy worlds and beloved songs of her childhood transformed into imaginative collections of "toy-jewels", created with enamel, pearls, bronze and silver. The pieces are one-of-a-kind creations, that reproduce amusing "game of contrasts" and meld vintage and modern pieces.
Francessca teaches Fashion in Film at Florence University of the Arts. She designs for a home accessories company and she host in her boutique kids willing to play and expand their creative skills.

"..I have created toy jewels to be worn for their elegance mixed with irony, and I have joked with "recycling" antique and modern trinkets. This is my mixture of value and insignificance, rigor and excess, refinement and crude joyfulness."
